Patients and displaced Palestinians are fleeing Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital, the last operational medical facility in central Gaza, following new evacuation orders.
On Sunday, the Israeli army ordered Palestinians to evacuate an area east of Deir el-Balah in central Gaza, which had previously been designated as a “humanitarian area.”
The Gaza Government Media Office later confirmed that Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital is not within the "red zone" specified by Israeli authorities.
Since October 7, Israel has targeted several Gaza hospitals. Avichay Adraee, an army spokesperson, announced on X that forces would conduct aggressive operations in the area, which has been marked as a “dangerous combat area.” He urged residents and displaced people to evacuate immediately to the western area of Al-Mawasi for their safety.
Throughout the 10-month conflict, Israel has frequently ordered mass evacuations to so-called “safe” or “humanitarian” zones. Human rights groups and international observers have condemned these orders as inhumane, noting that Palestinians have often been attacked both en route to and within these designated areas.
The brutal offensive on the Gaza Strip continues despite a United Nations Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire, following an attack by the Palestinian group Hamas on October 7.
