Hamas launched a barrage of rockets at Tel Aviv on the one-year anniversary of the October 7 attacks, as Israelis gathered for memorials honoring the victims. Meanwhile, powerful explosions shook southern Beirut, with Israeli forces intensifying strikes on the Lebanese capital. In Haifa, at least 10 people were injured following a Hezbollah rocket attack.
In northern Gaza, 17 people, including nine children, were killed after the Israeli military urged civilians to evacuate the Jabalia refugee camp before launching a heavy bombardment. Since October 2023, Israeli strikes in Gaza have claimed at least 41,909 lives and injured 97,303. In Israel, the October 7 Hamas-led attacks killed at least 1,139 people, with more than 200 taken hostage.

Israeli airstrikes near the Lebanon-Syria border have put civilians at serious risk and disrupted humanitarian efforts, according to reports. Human Rights Watch (HRW) emphasized that even if Israel is targeting military objectives, the attacks could still be unlawful if they cause disproportionate harm to civilians. HRW also noted that if Hezbollah is using the border crossing for arms transfers, it may also be failing to protect civilians in the area.
HRW’s Lama Fakih warned that closing the border crossing while large numbers of civilians are fleeing and aid is urgently needed poses a significant threat to civilian safety.
Meanwhile, U.S. President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris condemned Hamas’s October 7 attack on Israel while advocating for a ceasefire in Gaza to end the ongoing conflict. Biden also pledged continued efforts to secure the release of more than 100 hostages held since the attack.
In Turkey, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan condemned Israel’s actions in Gaza, accusing it of committing genocide and comparing Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu to Hitler. He declared that Israel will "pay the price" for its actions, adding that peace will remain elusive without accountability.
