Hezbollah has announced the death of one of its top commanders amid Israel’s ongoing bombardment of Lebanon. Ibrahim Muhammad Qubaisi, known as “Hajj Abu Musa,” was confirmed dead in a Telegram post by Hezbollah early Wednesday. This came shortly after the Israeli military declared he had been “eliminated” in an airstrike on Ghobeiri in Beirut's southern suburbs.
Israeli officials stated that Qubaisi led several of Hezbollah’s missile and rocket units and was responsible for a 2000 attack in which three Israeli soldiers were kidnapped and killed. The Israeli strike also resulted in six deaths and 15 injuries, according to Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health.
Since Monday, Israeli attacks have killed at least 569 people and injured 1,835 others in Lebanon, as reported by Lebanese health authorities. Al Jazeera’s Oliver Marsden, reporting from Beirut, described a tense atmosphere with many Lebanese fleeing the south for safety in the north, including Beirut.
