Meanwhile, Qatar, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and several Western countries, including the US, Canada, Australia, Japan, and EU nations, have called for a 21-day "temporary ceasefire" along the Lebanon-Israel border. The joint statement, released Thursday, highlighted the "intolerable" situation since October 8, 2023, and warned of the risk of a broader regional conflict.
The signatories urged for an immediate ceasefire to allow civilians to safely return home and facilitate diplomatic efforts, referencing UNSCR 1701 and 2735. They also pledged support for diplomatic negotiations aimed at resolving the Lebanon-Israel crisis during the ceasefire period.
