The United Arab Emirates has announced that it is closely monitoring the case of Pavel Durov, the founder and CEO of Telegram and an Emirati citizen, following his arrest and the extension of his detention by French authorities.
Durov, who is 39 and originally from Russia, was detained on Saturday at Paris-Le Bourget Airport. His detention is related to a judicial inquiry launched last month concerning 12 alleged criminal violations involving his popular Telegram app, according to the Paris prosecutor’s office. ..

The UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement early Tuesday, indicating that it is "closely following" the case of Pavel Durov and has "requested" that the French government provide him with "all consular services urgently."
The statement emphasized that "caring for citizens, preserving their interests, and providing comprehensive support are top priorities for the UAE."
Although Durov was born in Russia, he spent much of his childhood in Italy and holds citizenship in the UAE, France, Russia, and St. Kitts and Nevis.//
