Russia Continues Missile and Drone Assault on Ukraine for Second Consecutive Day as Ukraine Deploys Air Defense Systems Overnight,,
**27 Aug 2024**,,Russia has launched another wave of missile and drone strikes across several Ukrainian regions, resulting in at least four fatalities, according to Ukraine’s military. This comes a day after a major attack on Ukraine’s power grid.
In Kryvyi Rih, a central Ukrainian city, a hotel was destroyed in the attack, killing two people. Another two deaths occurred in drone strikes on Zaporizhzhia, located east of Kryvyi Rih.
Throughout the night, Kyiv’s air defense systems were actively engaged to counter incoming missiles and drones targeting the capital. The regional military administration reported on Telegram that Ukrainian forces intercepted approximately 15 drones and several missiles near Kyiv.
Serhiy Popko, head of Kyiv’s military administration, confirmed that “everything that flew toward the capital of Ukraine was destroyed.”
The Ukrainian Air Force reported that five missiles and 60 drones were shot down during the overnight assault. In total, Russia launched 91 projectiles, including 10 missiles and 81 Iranian-designed attack drones.
On Monday, Russia had already fired over 200 missiles and drones, causing at least seven deaths and significant damage to energy infrastructure. US President Joe Biden denounced the attack as “outrageous.”
