**“Emilia Pérez” Trailer: Selena Gomez and Zoe Saldaña Shine in Cannes Hit About Drug Cartel and Transformation,,

Selena Gomez makes her Spanish-language film debut with the highly anticipated “Emilia Pérez,” directed by Jacques Audiard. This Cannes award-winning musical follows the lives of four women in Mexico each seeking their own happiness. The story centers on Emilia (Karla Sofía Gascón), a formidable cartel leader who recruits Rita (Zoe Saldaña), a disillusioned lawyer, to help her fake her death so she can live authentically.

Gomez plays Jessi, alongside Adriana Paz as Epifanía and Edgar Ramírez as Gustavo. The film received the Cannes Jury Prize and Best Actress Award, honoring the performances of Gascón, Saldaña, Gomez, and Paz. It also won the Cannes Soundtrack Award for its score by Clément Ducol and Camille.,,

Jacques Audiard crafted Selena Gomez’s role in “Emilia Pérez” to resonate with her Mexican-American heritage.

Gomez, reflecting on her experience, shared with The Hollywood Reporter, “The Latinx identity in America is very similar to what my character portrays, speaking both English and Spanish. We built Jessi around my abilities, which allowed me to focus more on my performance and less on just speaking Spanish. It was one of the best experiences I've had on set since ‘Spring Breakers.’ I’ve been fortunate to be part of great projects, but these two have a special place in my heart as they challenged me in new ways.”

She continued, “I’m thrilled about this project and was amazed by the reception, especially since we only saw the film at the festival. We were in excellent hands with Jacques, and the positive response has been overwhelming. The women in this film are truly remarkable.”

Produced by Audiard, Pascal Caucheteux, Valérie Schermann, and Anthony Vaccarello, with Pauline Lamy as executive producer, “Emilia Pérez” will open in select theaters on November 1 and stream on Netflix starting November 13. Check out the trailer below.,,,
