Israel remains unresponsive to calls for the evacuation of wounded journalists, including Fadi al-Wahidi and Ali al-Attar, from Gaza.
Al Jazeera cameraman Fadi al-Wahidi is in a coma after being shot by an Israeli sniper in Gaza earlier this month, and has not yet been allowed to leave the enclave for urgent medical treatment. Al-Wahidi, who was clearly identified as press, was shot in the neck while covering the Israeli ground invasion of the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza.
Despite appeals from media freedom organizations, Israeli authorities have denied both al-Wahidi and fellow Al Jazeera cameraman Ali al-Attar permission to leave Gaza for life-saving treatment. Al-Wahidi’s condition has worsened since his hospitalization on October 9, with doctors in Gaza City warning they lack the resources to treat his severe injuries, which include damage to arteries, veins, and shattered bones. Meanwhile, al-Attar remains untreated after being shot in central Gaza, with shrapnel lodged in his skull and brain bleeding.
