Monday night was Jayden Daniels' breakout performance.
The rookie quarterback for the Commanders completed 21 of 23 passes for 254 yards and two touchdowns, adding a rushing score in a thrilling 38-33 road victory over the Bengals. But the true sign of his arrival came late in the fourth quarter on a pivotal fourth down. The Commanders trusted Daniels to make the play, and he delivered a clutch pass to tight end Zach Ertz, keeping the drive alive. That moment set up his touchdown throw to Terry McLaurin, sealing the upset win.
After the game, Daniels was asked if he was surprised by how quickly he’s found success in the NFL.
“Yes and no,” Daniels said. “Yes, because it’s new, being a rookie. But no, because I’ve put in the work. What’s done in the dark always comes to light. I know I’m prepared for these moments week in and week out. Just have to go out there, play football, and execute.”
The Commanders have struggled for years, but in just three games, Daniels has given them genuine hope. Monday night showed that their brighter days might arrive sooner than anyone expected.
