NEW YORK — Iga Swiatek defeated Liudmila Samsonova 6-4, 6-1 at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Monday, advancing to the US Open quarterfinals as the top seed continued her perfect run in Flushing Meadows.

Swiatek, the only former women's champion remaining in the draw, has yet to drop a set at the tournament. In her 100th Grand Slam match, the 23-year-old lost just four points on her first serve.

Samsonova, the 16th seed, was aiming for her first Grand Slam quarterfinal but struggled to find her rhythm and did not earn a single break point against Swiatek.

Next, Swiatek will face American Jessica Pegula, whom she defeated in the 2022 US Open quarterfinals on her way to one of her five Grand Slam titles.

"Jessica has a pretty tricky playing style, so I'll need to be ready for long rallies and intense hitting," said Swiatek. "It’s going to be a challenge."

Samsonova managed to fend off two break points in the fourth game but could not withstand Swiatek's pressure. Swiatek broke Samsonova to love in the 10th game of the first set.

In the second set, Samsonova, down 0-3, saved three break points in the fourth game but then handed Swiatek a break with a double fault. Swiatek finished the match on her second match point with a deft volley at the net before Samsonova’s backhand went wide.

Swiatek, who skipped the Toronto tune-up event, said she feels she is hitting her stride in New York.

"At the beginning, it wasn’t easy to find my rhythm, especially since we focused more on recovery than on practice before the slams," she said. "I’m definitely feeling better and better every day."NEW YORK — Iga Swiatek defeated Liudmila Samsonova 6-4, 6-1 at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Monday, advancing to the US Open quarterfinals as the top seed continued her perfect run in Flushing Meadows.
