A Texas woman has been formally indicted by a grand jury for the attempted drowning of a 3-year-old Palestinian American girl earlier this year, an attack allegedly motivated by racial hatred. The suspect, Elizabeth Wolf, 42, was charged with attempted capital murder and intentionally causing bodily injury to a child. The indictment, which includes a hate crime enhancement, was filed last month in Tarrant County and came to light on Tuesday.
Wolf's representative was not immediately available for comment. The hate crime element could potentially increase the severity of her sentence if she is convicted.
According to police reports, the incident occurred in May at an apartment complex swimming pool in the Dallas-Fort Worth suburb of Euless. Wolf reportedly approached the mother of the young girl, who was at the pool with her six-year-old son, and inquired about their origins. She then attempted to drown the 3-year-old and also tried to grab the older boy. The mother managed to rescue her daughter, and local medics responded, confirming that the children were unharmed.
